Nestled in the rolling hills of East Tennessee, the town of Rogersville is the second oldest town in Tennessee, first settled in 1775 by the grandparents of Davy Crockett. The Griffith family enjoyed their sturdy brick home in a secluded setting there in Hawkins County, and contacted Brooks Malone to turn their large backyard into a more full-featured recreation area for spending time with family and friends.

At the start of the project, the back yard featured a small patio for grilling, with minimal landscaping, and the grassy backyard sloping upward away from the house towards the forest edge. David Brooks worked closely with them to design a distinctive and feature-packed outdoor living oasis that they could enjoy year-round in our mild Tennessee weather.

The Latham Genesis fiberglass pool was selected, with generous dimensions of 16 feet by 40 feet, and a true deep end coming in at 8′ 6″. Available in multiple colors, Ocean Blue Classic was chosen, presenting a rich and variegated medium blue that really pops amids the neutral browns and grays of the surrounding hardscaping.

The installation features a terraced design in multiple levels with color-matched concrete decking extending the existing patio. Lawn edging adds a crisp and minimalist separation between the pool area and lawn. Multi-colored retaining wall blocks and natural boulders are used for framing the shifts in height and holding decorative landscaping gravel in place. Subdued pool and landscaping lighting add a calming nighttime beauty to the entire scene and highlight the dramatic stacked boulders.

The pool features a large matched Genesis Spillover Tanning Ledge at 9 feet by 16 feet, adding additional options for cooling off and the delightful burble of a waterfall. But this installation isn’t just beautiful and refreshing, a healthy dose of fun was added with a full 24 foot long slide surrounded by natural boulders evoking the water park experience. The slide features a step tread upgrade leading up for enhanced traction and safety during robust summer play.

The large decking area includes multiple levels with plenty of space for lounging and socializing. Off to the side, a full featured outdoor kitchen with stainless steel appliances and sink, textured manufactured stone base, and granite countertop. All just a few steps from the outdoor dining area and covered porch that overlook the pool.
